The DC Studios logo is set in a rainy Gotham alley
Tale
Following the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, makes a move to take over Gotham’s criminal underworld. From melting makeup to filming in freezing temperatures, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti talk about getting into character during the making of ‘The Penguin.’ Colin Farrell fought hard to have his version of the Penguin smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but it was unsuccessful. For his own series, however, the character is portrayed as an occasional tobacco user, with a preference for cigars. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros.
Nailed the tone and atmosphere
logo. Featured in Graham Norton i likes: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). Gritty, dirty and dark, but Farrell manages to capture that charming spark that Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano did. There are similarities to the Sopranos, especially in the tone.
Amazing is the word
There’s a lot of dark stuff going on in this opening episode, but there are still comedic moments that fit the tone and don’t detract from it. Where to start with Farrell. I love seeing talented actors put their all into roles like this, and the makeup/CGI or whatever they did to transform him into the Penguin physically not only passes the eye test, but it looks incredibly realistic. There’s always the risk that if the makeup isn’t good enough or is a little off, it can be completely distracting.
It didn’t disappoint, in fact it surprised me
With the Penguin, it adds to his performance and the overall quality of the show because it’s such a good piece of work. And Farrell, as an actor, is completely immersed in this role. Maybe I’m a little biased because he’s one of my favorite actors before this series, but I think this will earn him some well-deserved praise. I never tune into new shows right away because I like to binge-watch them all at once, but I wanted to see how this one actually turned out.
Kudos to everyone involved in this project
