Cillian Murphy is a fan of the film’s original writer, Claire Keegan

This is not a happy film
60 Minutes Presentation: Red Sea Crisis / Fake Elektors / Finding Cillian Murphy (2024). I know the story of Magdalene Laundries behind this film, but that’s not why I went to see it – I saw the trailer and was intrigued. It’s a slow, intense look at a social issue from a man’s perspective.
The acting is excellent, if superficial
In the background is his own childhood and the moral pressures that came with it. It’s sensitive and thoughtful, if a little simplistic/black and white – though it’s hard to be too nuanced given the subject matter and the need to portray things coherently in a mainstream publication. Cillian Murphy, Eileen Walsh and Emily Watson elevate the film above the everyday.
The acting is also underrated
One criticism – there’s perhaps too little dialogue and too much intense staring – for Murphy, that’s pretty much all he does, but he does it very well. As I said above, the dialogue is sparse, so the script should be and is well written. The direction is a subtle and light touch.
Anyway, it’s a great movie and worth a watch if you’re at all awake
I think this film should have touched me more than it did, but I’m hard-hearted. serious movie.
